NB Gurung – Artist of Nepal
Grierson Publications brings NB Gurung’s vibrant work to Hawkhurst on 5th December
Talented Nepali artist NB Gurung from Kathmandu, Nepal, is an artist who doesn’t sit still! From the breathtaking and diverse scenery of Nepal to its people, of so many cultures, languages and lifestyles NB captures it all. Whether sitting on the pavement watching the world go by or in the jungle capturing the colours that only Nepal can produce, the effect and finished result is the same – outstanding! One day NB may be working with children traumatised by the earthquake to help them express themselves through art, the next holding a workshop for foreign artists or organising a trip to showcase his work. Whether working with watercolour or acrylic, landscape or portraits, his talent and creativity know no bounds!
NB Gurung has teamed up with Grierson Publications – who are very proud to work closely with The Gurkha Welfare Trust – to produce a limited edition range of giclée prints to raise funds for The Gurkha Welfare Trust Earthquake Response Fund.
The image above is titled Bhaktapur Sky, a superb watercolour interpretation of Bhaktapur Durbar Square, executed by the artist shortly after the earthquakes that hit Nepal earlier this year.
It’s a compelling and poignant work that really touched a chord with NB’s emotions following the tragic events in his beloved country, a place he holds sacred in his heart.
In his own words: “The painting, executed in a semi-realistic way, was an impression after two massive earthquakes were felt upon the historic Bhaktapur Durbar Square. The earthquake destroyed millions of properties, killed thousands of people along with vast amounts of historic heritage. It made me feel bitter at losing my own incredible guardian making me an orphan! The dominant entity of clouds across the painting is a cry for its lost glory…” NB Gurung, April 2015
The special limited series consists of 250 Giclée prints, each priced at £150. The prints are now available to order from Grierson Publications, with 10% of every print sold going to the GWT. For further information about the artist, visit www.nbgurungart.com.
