Louise Durham : stained glass sculptures
Working from her garden studio in Shoreham-by-Sea, stained glass sculptor Louise Durham produces stunning sculptures from vibrant coloured glass set into recycled timber.
Both as unusual stand alone sculptures and expertly incorporated into doors and windows, Louise’s work brings a unique freshness, a lyrical quality, to any location.
“My sculptures find homes in both interiors and gardens, large and small, and in a wide variety of settings. They are best placed where light can shine through them, either natural light by day or artificial at night.”
“The sculptures are constructed from materials that are designed to withstand all weathers. Almost all are made from recycled greenheart timber; glass pieces are traditionally leaded and soldered and fixed with a glue that withstands extreme temperatures.”
“The elements have shaped the wood and in turn shape my designs. Sunlight illuminates the glass, casting colours where it falls.”
Louise shows at Sussex Prairies Gardens throughout the summer months and will be taking part in the Brighton Artists Open Houses, and the Adur Art Trail in Shoreham.
