I have worked as a designer in the fashion and textile industry for over 20 years and am an enthusiastic painter with a great passion for all things artistic and creative. Putting all of my creative skills to good use by teaching courses and workshops and encouraging creativity in others is an absolute joy. I’ve taught Fashion and Textiles at Plymouth College of Art and Design, Textiles at Open College of the Arts, Drawing and Collage workshops at adult education level and recently Textile Portraits at the Young Bohemians Summer School at Charleston Farmhouse which used to be the home of the some of the Bloomsbury Group.

I believe everyone can be creative. Age is not a barrier and skills can be learned by anyone. Through Coastal Creativity I aim to bring you fun, friendly and exciting courses which allow you to learn at your own pace. All abilities are welcome, from the complete beginner to those with more experience. Maybe you want to learn how to draw but haven’t picked up a pencil since you left school. Perhaps you fancy doing something with textiles but haven’t a clue where to start. My Home Sweet Home course is aimed at people who want to do up their homes but either have a tight budget or would like to have a go at it themselves. Upcycling and reworking items is very eco-friendly! I also offer one to one tuition in Photoshop and Illustrator for people who want to learn to be more creative on their computers, including fashion designers and students who are looking to enhance their skills. Having said all that, sometimes what people want is to just get out of the house, take a bit of time for themselves doing something creative and make new friends at the same time. I’m all for that!

Working in the fashion industry was great as I got to travel to various countries as part of my job. I worked in New York for a short while as a knitwear designer before settling in London for 10 years. Just a year ago I moved to St Leonards. I wanted a change of scenery and lifestyle. St Leonards is a great place. Full of artists and creative people, the pace of life is slower and I’m right next to the sea. I love that.
